It has, over time, accrued several contracts to mint currency and set exchange rates for each kingdom; giving it immense weight in political circles. It is not uncommon for the Merchants Guild to call upon sellswords to protect the Guilds' interests.

Originally a convent for scholars studying the Wells of Power, over the centuries the Order of the Obsidian Tower has grown into the premier scholarly authority on Alaraes. They base themselves within a compound at the center of the town Obsidian. This compound houses five towers made of stone and steel, arranged in a circle around a giant obsidian spear thrusting from the ground in the center of its spacious courtyard. It is here where the orders mages and technomancers catalogue artifacts and hone their craft. Once an acolyte of the order has been deemed adequate enough to go out into the world, they are bonded with a Knight whom is tasked with protecting them, both from danger and from having their arcane knowledge stolen. The Obsidian Tower, as a whole, is obsessed with finding lost magic items, and remnants of ancient technolofy. They amass anything they can find into their tower vaults for cataloging and study.

Renowned as some of the most deadly and tenacious fighters in the land, the Knights of the Obsidian Tower are tasked with protecting the mage with whom they have been bonded, as well as the Orders secrets. The the oldest of their order, who are either too old or too maimed to fight, mentor young initiate knights and train them in the art of killing; spending years refining their skills with all manner of weapons. When a the Archmage of the Order and the Knight Captain deem an initiate’s skill adequate, the initiate is granted full knighthood. This is when the bonding takes place. An acolyte is chosen and a bond is formed, lasting until death. The bond itself grants certain benefits for both the knight, and the acolyte, that the order prefers to keep to themselves.

Followers of an otherworldly god called “Arkon”, they promise the same as their god, chaos and destruction. They believe the end of the world have already begun and claimed the first land inside of “The Veil”, a dazzling aurora that many have entered but no one has managed to leave.<br/>
The cult does not have an hierarchy but work as small groups that operate separately, they vary from simple travelers spreading their belief, more formidable groups consisting of warriors of magic users and large followings that meet at different places, usually with 1 or 2 clerics and a group of loyal apostles holding most of the power.
</p>
<p>
There are many rumors about kidnapping and sacrifice around the cult, the disappearance of a child would usually be blamed on the roaming doom prophet more often than not, when ether justified or otherwise. Some of these rumors claimed that even one of the barons is secretly a prophet of doom though the name of the baron is generally never mentioned unless the spreader of the rumors holds a grudge against said Baron.<br/>
The rumors do not seem to threaten them, as they walk in their menacing black and red cloaks openly in the streets, waiting until the tallest shadow is cast on the ground before they preach.<br/>
<br/>
Despite their apocalyptic promises and the strange rumors they seem to gather supporters and followers, accepting any race and sex, they lure people into the cult through the more enjoyable aspects of chaos while reminding the judgment of Arkon will surely arrive.
