Recently, large pools of blackened earth have been seen all across Alaraes. These pools have the smell of rot about them, and have been infecting creatures and magic that get too close. Many mages, both independent and from the Order of the Obsidian Tower have tried studying it, or harnessing it. Often with disastrous results. If a creature comes into contact with it, mutation is certain, sometimes instantaneous, sometimes over months, but always inevitable.
