====== Humans (Alaraes) ======

Humans are the dominant race on Alaraes and come in a variety of flavors, from the tall and severe in [[alaraes:chapter_4:reiben|Reiben]], to the humble and welcoming of [[alaraes:chapter_4:kaldar|Kaldar]], to the stout and stoic of [[alaraes:chapter_4:qokon|Qokon]]. Humans flourish in almost all environs of Alaraes and are known to choose environments to settle to which they are poorly suited. Many of the humans of Alaraes sport some small physical trait of other species found on the continent, from a hint of tusk granted by an [[alaraes:chapter_1:onigre|Onigre]] grandfather to a slight sheen of chromatic color from a [[alaraes:chapter_1:dragonborn|dragonborn]] mother. Humanity lacks a monolithic culture and are excellent social chameleons. 

==== Jealous by Nature ====

Humans tend to idolize and envy traits in other races that they lack themselves. This jealousy is expressed by an intense need to compensate for their perceived inadequacies. A human will use any means available to even the playing field between themselves and another race, from magic to technology. A human will use magic to grant themselves a dragonborns’ breath weapon, armor to replicate a [[alaraes:chapter_1:steelborn|steelborns']] toughness, and cybernetics to grant themselves a [[alaraes:chapter_1:kree-antha|Kree-anthas]] dexterity. As such, cybernetics, intentional mutation, and other “enhancements” are far more prevalent among humans than in other races. 

==== A World Apart ====

Most races in Alaraes keep humans somewhat at arm’s length. The things that an [[alaraes:chapter_4:ilkor|Ilkoran]] would find acceptable during polite dinner conversation may have you thrown handily out of a Reibinian household, and a simple greeting gesture in one town may insult an entire lineage in another just a few miles away. Humans have no single culture, no monolith of ideals. Simple interactions must be approached with caution nor even a commonality in speech
